Create an Inventory Item

Keeping with the examples for Primary and Secondary Inventory Groups, we will be creating the Inventory Item for "Round Widget". Example 1 Within the Administration Menu, take option 2 within the "Inventory Items", to display the create page (example 1).

Example 2 The create "Inventory Item" pages appears thusly (example 2).

Example 3 The "SKU" is the part number, maximum length is 15 characters. It must be unique, if the SKU already exists in the database, an error will occur and terminate your attempt to create an Inventory Item. (example 3). The "SKU Name" is what it implies - what the inventory item is known as. Maximum length is 35 characters.

Example 4 The Primary Inventory Group is selected from the dropdown box, in this instance, "Widgets" (example 4).

Example 5 The Secondary Inventory Group is selected from the dropdown box, in this instance, "Round Widgets" (example 5).

Example 6 The "Item URL" field should be the same as the "SKU Name" but in all lower case characters and with the "underscore" character to make the field contiguous. The "Thumbnail Image URL" and "Standard Image URL" fields should be the same as the images selected in the "Upload Images" function. You must append a ".jpg" at the end of the field name. The "Price", "Unit of Measure", and "Description" fields are all self explanitory. (example 6).

Example 7 The "Size Options" checkbox is how you will specify item sizes (ie. Large, Medium, Small). We will be specifying two inside diameters. The "Color Options" checkbox is how you will specify there will be various colors available (ie. Red, Blue, Green). We will be specifying chrome and gold plated finishes. The "Show Price" field indicates the the price is to be shown on the web pages. For some "big ticket" items you would want to supress showing the price for fear of scaring away the viewer. The default for the indicator is "yes". (example 7).

Example 8 If either the "Size Options" or the "Color Options" checkboxes were selected, the following appears when the "Enter" button is pressed on the previous web page. (example 8).

Example 9 The results of sucessfully creating the "Round Widget" Inventory Item. Example 10
